Make it a habit to listen to your inner being for the still small voice of God.

Does God actually speak to his believers? Yes He does, but not in the type of voice we as humans are accustomed to hearing. He speaks to our inner being, guiding us through a lot of things we never before dreamed possible. You will find out that God is interested in all the little things you're doing in your everyday life. If you enjoy woodworking, He is interested in what you're doing. And He'll help you too, sometimes without you even having to ask Him.

My hobby is the restoration of 1950s record players, particularly the RCA Victor high-fidelity players that were made in the heyday of tube audio equipment. I get a real enjoyment out of buying a player that is totally dead and restoring it to new life once again. Hearing the phonograph sound like new, or even better, than it was originally is a great source of enjoyment and satisfaction to me. I have found over the past two years that I have been restoring these players that God is interested in helping me be successful in my hobby and part-time business.

Since I got into the hobby in 2008, I have prayed to God to help me locate players to work on, and once I find them, for His guidance in repairing them properly. On a Friday afternoon in October, 2008, I heard a small voice in my inner being that said, "You've got to go over to the Benton flea market this afternoon." I had been tracking my daughter and son-in-law's airplane flight from Germany to Dallas that day, and I heard the voice right after they landed in Cincinnati. I spoke outloud, "Oh, I can run over to that flea market tomorrow." The voice returned, "No, you must go today." So, I got in the car and headed to the flea market, having no clue what to expect.

I arrived at the flea market about 15 minutes later and went to a booth that I liked to visit, and there were two record players, an RCA Victor and a Truetone, for $15 each. They were in like new physical condition, so I bought them both. Upon leaving I found out the flea market was having its annual open house that Saturday morning, and the place would be swamped with people stopping by for free coffee and donuts. It then dawned on me that God directed me over there that Friday afternoon. He knew if I didn't go over there then, that someone else would buy the players Saturday morning. What a wonderful Father our God is!

Part of the record player restoration is replacing all the old capacitors in the amplifiers. I try to make it a habit to ask for God's guidance in doing any amplifier, so that I will do it right and not make any mistakes in the process. I was working on one amp and was ready to install the very last capacitor. The original lead wouldn't reach the new capacitor I was installing, so I decided I could just extend the wire. Then, I heard the voice again: "No, you need to re-route that wire rather than extend it." I listened and acted on what I had heard. When I moved that wire to re-route it, something very shiny almost blinded me. "What is that?" I thought. A closer inspection revealed that right up against that wire, hidden from my sight, was a long piece of solder that needed removed. And that piece of solder was going across a tube socket. Had I applied power to this amp, it might very well have been toast. But God knew it was there, and He directed me to re-route that wire so I would spot it and remove it. God knows everything, even how to fix a record player amplifier!

Anytime I have problems with an amp or a changer that I can't fix, I ask God for guidance in leading me right to the source of the problem. And you know what, He always does. He's done this many times for me, particularly in the last year. Make God your source for everything you do, and you'll find He's always there to help you. You can count on Him.

Listen for God's still small voice in your inner being. And, when you hear it, act when he guides you in a certain direction.
